14 ways to make today brighter

I read a wonderful blog post not so long ago about ways to make the day better. After reading the many responses to this puzzling yet honest and real question, I couldn’t help but wonder for myself what my answer would be.

What idea, mantra, practice, affirmation or thought do I, would I, or have implemented for myself to make my day brighter?

I mean, if I want a hot bath after a long day I will have one; I often enjoy my $3.50 Skinny latte at the cafe up the road from me; Having a picnic outside with my daughter on a glorious day is sure to make it brighter. I may even read a good olde gossip, trashy magazine….

So here it is…. here is my answer

When the day is not so bright, that is ok. You don’t have to try and change the feeling, or change the thought, or ignore this very real thought. But stop, take a breath, and observe some of the most simplest of things in your yourself or whats around you. It may be the sound of the kettle boiling or the feeling of your breath travel from your lungs up and out through your mouth. Just take a minute, stop, observe and notice.

Maybe this is a mantra. I don’t know. But it works for me.

What is your mantra, your thought, your philosophy to make your day brighter?

I get in touch with nature when I am having an off day. Kick my shoes off and walk on grass, lay down in the park and gaze at the sky, or just smell my son’s cheek. All those things take me down a notch when my anxiety is peaking a little higher than it should be. And deep, gut breathing, that always works for me.

It sounds like you have it down pat Peggy. I love the feeling of grass through your feet…. especially after a long winter when shoes are generally always on to keep our feet warm.

It is great to know that you have a few tools to draw on in times of need when those off days come about :) x
