Creating healthy habits

You will read a lot of different ideas and methods surrounding creating a healthy lifestyle. It can be very hard to keep up, or find ideas that actually align with your lifestyle. A morning smoothie with Kakadu Plum Powder is part of my everyday routine.

There is no point creating a morning mantra if you don’t feel comfortable with this, there is also no point creating a routine around mornings if you aren’t a morning person! Healthy habits and routines are about what works best for you and this is the most important piece of advice you can remember.

The best thing to consider is what you want to improve on, or want to accomplish. If you think that your eating habits need improving then thing about small changes you can start to make. Perhaps you eat takeaway too often, so you could think about having some meal prep time over the weekend (think of how much money you will save as well!). It doesn’t have to be a huge day of cooking (although if you have the motivation and time, go for it), it could be as easy as chopping up all of your ingredients for a salad, and throwing them in a big container in the fridge. You can then dish out however much you want for your meal, and make a different type of dressing for variety.

Exercise is another vital part of a healthy life. It is hugely important both for mental and physical health. The most common things you will hear are “I need to go for a run” or“I’m off to the gym”. These are both brilliant exercise forms but not everyone is a runner, and not everyone enjoys the gym. It is about finding your niche whether it is a power walk, social tennis, dance class, yoga or boot camp. Make it a social activity if exercise has never a huge part of your life, that way you are motivated by others.

Cost can be a concern with exercise, but there are now plenty of free apps, which you can still do with a group of friends, or on your own. You will find a lot of them are broken down into shorter workouts to make them very easy to fit into any busy life.

Creating healthy habits and routines doesn’t have to be daunting! Like anything it is all about baby steps, and finding what makes you feel good. The other most important thing is not to be too hard on yourself. If you forget to exercise or you are too tired, that’s Ok. Maybe evaluate why, have you been going too hard, is your energy lacking because you haven’t had time to cook healthier meals? Are you spending too much time sucked into cat videos on Youtube and not making the time to cook?

Just write down what you want to accomplish, pop it on the fridge or next to your bed, and keep persevering.

What are healthy habits you are trying to create?

Definitely the exercise habit. I have never been good at it — I”m so sporadic and that’s the opposite of what I should be. I don’t know, it’s just not something that’s ever come naturally to me. Not something that I’ve ever felt motivated enough about. Which is ridiculous and I know that!!! x

I have quit chocolate. I was quite proud of myself until I realised I had increased my twice-weekly can of Coke to daily. Must tackle that next. #teamIBOT

Snacking when studying is my issue. I need to have prepared something healthy so I don’t reach for boxes of biscuits. Sometimes chewing gum quells the urge, but other times it really doesn’t.

I’m pretty healthy aside from the wine! I would like to limit my intake to two nights a week! Visiting from #ibot.
