Family Life

for the love of sport

There is a bit of a sport buzz happening at the moment. I feel it. I feel that no sooner does one great sporting event finish another start. We are a sporting nation are we not? We are known to love our sport. What true Australian is not connected to at least one sporting love? I have to admit, I am not a sporting junky. Me and sport had an attempt at a loving relationship but we came to the conclusion we were just not meant to be. The best you will see me at is a brisk walk with my ipod and my dog walking beside me.

I have other loves. I have other passions. Hey, I didn’t even know about the Rugby Semi-final until someone told me the day before. Maybe I am a little less of an Australian. Especially considering I don’t barrack for an AFL team.

But this is the thing about us all… we all have something different to be inspired by, passionate about. We all have our own unique loves and connections. I have different strengths.

Give me a semi-final or grand final ticket to the Australian Open… I am there! Even maybe with a big foamy finger (or is that for a different sport?) But there is nothing more inspiring and more rewarding to see our nation stop for a horse race… the streets are quiet, the streets are empty.

We value our sport, we value our families getting together over a sporting game. Those are memories the kids will remember! Whatever ‘sport’ that may be.

As seen in the latest issue of 3008docklands magazine. This is what I know about sport. By all means, I don’t protest to know much on sport… just a little..just a few traditions and values.

What traditions do you know about sport?

I’m probably the antithesis of a sport mad stereotypical Aussie. I have NO interest whatsoever. I’m trying to get into walking, swimming & cycling for fitness, but couldnt imagine a more boring way to spend time than to *watch* others kick a ball around or whatever :D

But each to their own. I agree that sporting events (ie the Melb Cup) can be very unifying.

I also have NO interest in sport unless its something like the olympics or triathlons. I love to participate but spectating just makes me sleepy. So unaustralian i know!

We love our sport in this house! Hubby and I are both mad AFL supporters (but not the same team!) Hubby and daughter both play tennis and we are planning on taking the family to Stakes Day next year. Hubby is a sports tragic – if there were two flies racing up a wall he would watch it ;-)

haha… that is just too funny… have you ever done a cane toad race?

Well, sport is in my blood most sports anyway….just dont get the cricket thing, but I guess I am excused from that for being female.:) Do love the summer tennis though. Pok pok, just the sound on the TV is enough for me….oh and of course the Ironman series!

    • Tahlia

cricket for me was only when my bro and i watched it many moons ago… when australia was good!

I wouldn’t say I’m a huge sport lover apart from Cycling that is. Very passionate about all things pro cycling (Tour de France etc) Apart from that I like to watch the netball and the Tennis and a bit of cricket but certainly only if there is nothing else doing.
Hate AFL though (after an long association with the game during my 20’s).
I do love watching the kids get involved and we try and stay active and fit.
Each to their own I say.

I am always fascinated by the tour de france and how it works etc. I also love watching the scenery… who wouldn’t love cycling around that countryside :)

    • Tahlia

I have always been fascinated by the tour de france… and always love watching the scenery and in amazement of the view they get :)

I definitely don’t have a must-watch sport. I’ll watch the tennis if I remember it’s on and will shout and cheer at the screen throughout, but usually it’s a happy accident if it’s on at all.

I’m not into any sport whatsoever, but roll the Olympics out every four years and I’m GLUED. I’m also pretty partial to a sports movie – underdogs, I can’t get enough of them!! x

I am a Pies member and I love to watch basketball, particularly the women on ABC on Saturday afternoons, tennis, soccer, cricket. I have a Supercoach team. Yes, I love sport.
