what bird is that?

January 18, 2012

I remember when I was a little girl I would go outside with my dad and see what birds we could find. Bright ones, big ones, small ones.

We would then come home and look up what bird it was in the old and timeless book, ‘what bird is that?

I can not help but continue to spot the birds with my Little E. Notice the birds, talk about the birds. I can not help but notice her fascination with the birds.

Maybe we all have a fascination with birds? Or maybe birds represent something greater and more beautiful?

What do birds represent for you and your little cherubs? Do you have any fabulous memories?

Linking up with the fabulous My Little Drummer Boys, wordless wednesdaywordy wordless wednesday, seven clown circus, for a not so wordless wednesday, but an attempt anyway :)

To be honest I’ve never got why people are so fascinated by birds! But having seen these pics, I begin to understand.

My dad used to tell me about plants; I knew all the scientific names. :s

So what bird was it ?
We noticed a little bird – I think willy wagtail dive bombing and almost chasing the cats tonight. The first time they ventured out of hiding today …we just moved in and got new puppies. They are in shock I think – then a bird harassing them.
I think it had a next in the pine/? tree . Then we found a tiny smooth nest and dead (long) bird caught in branches nearby.
I showed my boys too.

Trish I believe the first one is a Hooded Merganser… It is not an australian bird though so probably would not be in the book i mentioned :) How cute are the little willy wagtails…. poor little cats… but your boys must have been fascinated i am sure x

Just lovely, the light and the color!
Actually this week, we heard such shrieking outside, and ended up saving a blue jay being attacked by a hawk in a ficus hedge in our yard!

What gorgeous shots of those birds. We took our kids to Florida last year and were astonished by all the variety of birds. It seems like all we have around here are sea gulls, pigeons, crows and sparrows.

unless you get into the bush and out of the city! When ever I go to queensland I always see kookaburras. I love kookaburras, but we just don’t seem to get them in melbourne.
