what if you don’t get that score you wanted?

As many students get the surprise of excitement and happiness as they read they read their VCE score today, discovering that your VCE score is not what you hoped is a real kick in the guts for many.

It is unfortunately what many teens will experience today.

Despair, unhappiness, regret, sadness, anxiety.

But don’t let a poor score spoil your dreams! Don’t let a poor mark deter you from what you believe in and what you see for yourself.

Focus on your goals, focus on what you want and realise that there are other ways to reaching your goal.

There is always another route up the mountain. Many routes in fact.

Parents need to help their teen work through their disappointment and see that there is still light at the end of the tunnel. It is not the end.

They might need a little help to help them see this light. It might take a bit of time. Disappointment is normal. Disappointment is ok.

Don’t give up. Know that there are other ways around it. Help teens realise that there are other ways. It may take a little more time and effort. But there are other ways.

How have you worked through disappointment?

If ever there was a truer message….I remember feeling like a failure at times at school and not realising there was another way, not understanding the different paths to different goals. I actually did fairly well at school but as I climbed up, the pool of competition was so much bigger, and by university, I was just another of the small fry. I wish I’d known that quote then because my thoughts that I had failed (when i didn’t make honours) and it was final we’re so wrong. I hope I can pass this positive message onto my girls as they grow up too.
