when you need a new look

branding evolution

You know that feeling when you go to the hairdresser & you ask for “a new look”, you wait in anticipation for the big reveal & then have that incredible “AHHH” feeling when you see yourself in the mirror.? In that second, you feel like a fresh person, a new person & someone who now has a new look.

Well, I kind of went through that feeling a few months back with my business & blog. You see, I felt after about two years with the same feel & style, I needed a new look. Ok, so maybe it is not the same feeling as walking out of the hairdresser with a new look, but a new brand, a new business, new colours & a new style gives you that fresh feeling for your business.

This blogging gig has taught me a few things over the last couple of years {amongst many more}. One of them is the need to change things up a little & recreate something new every now & then. Having a brand, an icon is powerful. Sometimes very powerful. Sometimes people know a logo before they know the business. Apple for example…. everyone’s knows that logo. Nike, McDonalds, Coca Cola… it is all in the logo.

Of course, I am not trying to make this little blog the next big & fabulous brand icon, but I still want to be as powerful as I can with my brand. It needed more. It has developed, evolved & grown to a space of what it is today.

So if you are thinking about a new look & new feel for your business, I thought I would share my thoughts & questions you should ask yourself when considering this ‘new look’ process…

1. What does your name mean? Think about the power of your business name & what you want it to mean to other people?

2. Think about your style? Are you classy, modern, chick or vintage? Your brand is a part of you because you represent it.

3. How do you want people to feel when they visit your website?

4. Can you describe your company or blog in 3-5 words?

5. If your brand were a person, how would you describe him or her?

When rebranding & refreshing your look, these questions will help you navigate through the creative process. They will also help you collaborate together with your graphic designer in creating your new look.

Don’t be scared. Don’t be afraid. Embrace the change.
