5 tips to keep your fresh flowers fresh

keeping flowers fresh

When is the last time you bought yourself a bunch of flowers?

I’ll be honest, I am a regular buyer of flowers for myself kind of person. There is something special about fresh flowers in the home, especially the ones that have this radiant and potent smell that fill the room with a gorgeous aroma. But lets be honest, there is nothing worst then having your flowers last only a couple of days before they start wilting and looking a little sad.

A few little tricks can in fact keep your flowers blooming for longer. Did you know that by cutting the stem on an angle before putting them into a vase full of water in fact opens up their ‘pores’ a little more, giving them a greater opportunity to suck all the water out?. It is the angle my friends….

And what are some other tricks?

  1. Keep your flowers out of direct sunlight
  2. Top them up with fresh water each day and recut {on an angle} the ends of the stem.

Now, for some little ‘old wives’ or other tricks that have floated around my little circle…

  1. Add a teaspoon of lemon juice in the vase
  2. Or instead, add a teaspoon of sugar {supposedly this acts like a preservative}

I am a regular visitor to the market with my kids. Each week, my daughter will pick a bunch for either our home or her grandmother. She stands at the buckets of flowers, observes, looks and admires the blooming colour. Flowers… there is just something really special about a special {or not so special} bunch of flowers in the home.

But on those occasions when you can’t get to the market, need a gift or just feel like you need some flowers instantly {for yourself, of course}, Fresh Flowers is there. I love nothing more then sometimes having the convenience of going online, clicking, ordering, and then sitting back and waiting for the delivery. Although Fresh Flowers are based in Sydney, people like myself living in Melbourne can order flowers online and have it delivered in their doorsteps. Not just Melbourne but most metropolitan areas nationwide too.

P.s. I am currently eyeing the Country Rose bouquet.

So, do you have any other tricks to keep your flowers lasting longer?
