best children’s picture books – my top 5

rainbow fish

A while back I asked you what your favourite children’s story is. There were so many wonderful stories, many of which I had not heard before. I thought it was time to give you my Top 5 –  the Top 5 that I actually enjoy reading too.

guess how much i love you

1. Guess How Much I Love You

I remember as a kid my dad used to always ask, and tell me “I love you this much…. No this much” and open his arms up wide, so wide that they couldn’t go further. This book reminds me of those moments I had as a kid.

where is the green sheep

2. Where Is The Green Sheep

There is a wide sheep, a thin sheep,  & a band sheep… it plays on opposites, anticipation, discovery and colour. I just love it. Come the final page, we have a little game going too

possum magic

3. Possum Magic

A loveable classic! A loveable story! And so Australian too. It just has so much magic!

rainbow fish

4. Rainbow Fish

I had never heard of this book until I became a Mumma myself. It is so pretty, so magical, & so much wonder. It brings counting, colour & reminds us to tell our children about the value of being an individual.

there's a hippopotamus on our roof

5. There’s A Hippopotamus On Our Roof Eating Cake

I don’t know if it is the cake, or a strange hippo that she has never seen before, or maybe it is because this hippo can do anything he wants, but this is a recent favourite.

What would you add to the list?
