Slow Down Mummy – R.Knight

slow down mummy
Somehow I came across this poem. Somehow it found me. Now it finds you.

****

slow down mummy, there is no need to rush,
slow down mummy, what is all the fuss?
slow down mummy, make yourself a cup tea.
slow down mummy, come spend some time with me.

slow down mummy, let’s pull boots on for a walk,
let’s kick at piles of leaves, and smile and laugh and talk.
slow down mummy, you look ever so tired,
come sit and snuggle under the duvet, and rest with me a while.

slow down mummy, those dirty dishes can wait,
slow down mummy, let’s have some fun – bake a cake!
slow down mummy, I know you work a lot,
but sometimes mummy, it’s nice when you just stop.

sit with us a minute,
and listen to our day,
spend a cherished moment,
because our childhood won’t stay!

My pleasure Emily. I can’t take credit for the poem obviously, but I am glad you feel inspired by it, just as I am. It is so easy to forget the simple moments and go about our day without stopping.

I think I need to print it out too! xx

I really like this. Good to be reminded to just enjoy time with your children as we don’t get a chance to repeat it.
Popped over from IBOT. – Great to read your post.

So true … the days pass in a flash. My 2 cherubs are now 18 & 16, pretty much all grown up. We have just got a kitty so I have somebody to focus my maternal energies on!

Oh man – why didn’t I see this poem 20 years ago – thanks for sharing it now. If my child is ever in the position of having a child (she is dead set against them right now) – I am definitely going to give her a copy of this so she doesn’t make the same mistakes that I made !!
    Have the best day !
