things i know to date about being a mum

dropshadow-flower-white-pink-azalea

I know that being a mum is the toughest job on this planet

But I also know at the same time it is the most rewarding, uplifting and exhilarating one!

I know that everything I ever thought, imagined, or conceptualised about what being a mum is about has gone out the window. Nothing really prepares you.

I know that the need to be flexible is crucial. Being inflexible only creates more stress and anxiety.

I NOW know what it means to “go with the flow”!

I know that when my days are tough, challenging and hard, there is someone going through an even tougher time.

Although my challenges are real to me at the time, they are nothing compared to some. I know I need to keep things in perspective.

I know that the cheeky smiles and grins my Little E pulls are definitely from me… I can claim that one.

I now know how important the simple things in life are. Take in the moment, step back and enjoy.

I know that converting to the “mum” label is hard for some. Harder for some who feel they are letting a piece of themselves go. Harder for some that feel guilty for feeling this way.

I know that we all have moments where we feel embarrassed.

I know that once you are a parent it all becomes about putting your child’s interests ahead of your own and everyone else’s. But I also know we have to give ourselves permission to take a break and do something for yourself every now and then. And NOT feel guilty for it!

Being a healthy and happy you also creates a healthy and happy child.

What do you know?

It is so important to nurture one’s self in order to be able to nurture everyone else!

I know that I was nodding at all of your points.
Parenting is the most difficult but also the most rewarding.

I know that I agreed with every point you made. I know that while it is the hardest job around and the only one that runs 24/7 I wouldn’t swap it for anything else

    • Tahlia

So true!!! Never actually thought about it being a 24/7 job… well I know, but never put it like that :) But yes, wouldn’t swap it either xx

With a little baby suffering a head cold and chesty cough, plus a mama suffering the same, it’s made parenting VERY challenging this week. But the cuddles from both girls and `I love you” ‘s from the eldest make it worthwhile!

    • tahlia

ohh you poor thing Kellie. There is nothing worse then a head cold and everyone else in the family sick as well….. At least the “I love you cuddles” would make it a little easier.

Rest up and hope you feel better soon xx

    I know what I don’t know…

I also know that watching hours of mindless TV like say…The Real Housewives series, does not make the piles of washing smaller. But it”s relaxing. And I know as a Mum it’s important to breathe deeply and relax – alot…x

    • Tahlia

we all need some mindless tv to watch!

I know that you can’t rush things – the kids will resist and the things will end up taking longer. You have to force yourself sometimes to slow down.
I know that each stage has its difficulties but you get through them and look back and smile that you found it so tough ( except sometimes you still shudder in horror at the memory) – but you get through it.
I know that sometimes you are a great mum, sometimes average and sometimes you stuff up, and that’s life.

    • Tahlia

Jackie, you are so right on all your points. I have to remind myself, and my other friends to slow time and take time out. We so often forget about ourselves as we worry about everyone else in our life. The stuffing up is all par and par of the role. Hopefully we can all learn to accept this in ourselves and not get too hard on ourselves for it :) thanks for stopping by xx
