When my batteries are empty

Maybe it is the daylight saving change and losing an hour sleep.

Maybe it is the constant waking at night to my five month old who seems to have worked out how to roll to one side, but not back again.

Or maybe it is the drain of the demands, more demands and forever being needed, and sometimes feeling that I have nothing to give.

Because sometimes motherhood is hard. Sometimes parenting is hard. And sometimes those relaxing weekends you thought you were going to get just don’t happen. But as parents, we keep on going; I keep on going. Because there is no off button, and there is no switch to shut down.

But that does not mean that sometimes feeling low, feeling drained, uninspired and batteries are running on empty is not okay. Because it is okay. Because as a parent, it is okay to not always feel on top of the world, full of joy and happiness, and the life of the party. And sometimes sleep seems to be the only answer.

Sometimes we just have to acknowledge our feelings, accept them, and be okay that we have them.

Because we would not be human otherwise.
