Family Life

the christmas spirit

Not long now! No doubt everyone is frantic buying the last Christmas presents (or first ones).

Frantic, frantic!

Stress, stress

You know what your kids want, you have heard it for the last ……

But Christmas time does not have to be about stress and filling the stockings and Christmas tree with everything.

It is a time to share, a time to reflect, a time to remember. A time to be grateful.

Grateful for the little things

The small things

The old things

So why not encourage this and embrace this? How many old toys and old possessions are loved for a short period of time and then forgotten about?

Maybe you don’t have to refresh them. Rather give them away. Teach your children that there are less fortunate people. Christmas time for some families is a challenging time. By donating at least one old item they can help other less fortunate.

Create some toys together.

Create some blocks together.

Eco-friendly, environmentally friendly, creative, imaginative, appreciation.

Create a special something as a family for other family members or friends.

You don’t have to have a big budget. You don’t have to have much of a budget.

A little refresh, imagination, creativity, play and gratefulness can be the very best thing this Christmas.

For something that’s supposed to be the ‘most wonderful time of the year’, it always amazes me how stressful people make it! Great reminder to focus on the simplicity and the generosity, rather than the greed.

I agree, the most important thing for kids is time and a bit of ‘magic’ or atmosphere

Oh and excuse to eat lots of sweet treats haha

I try not to get carried away with gifts etc. The novelty lasts for a few hours and then it’s over.

I prefer to relax, eat and spend some time with the kids.

Agree, we should all be more grateful and more thoughtful with our gifts, so they have some meaning esp for the kids.

So very true; Christmas is only as complicate as we make it.

I’m aiming for simple and relaxing this year, and so far it’s looking that way.

Thanks for sharing my gift ideas…

Each year I try to make at least once small thing for my kids… and it always seems to be the thing that gets the most used. I love that, makes my heart sing!

You are so right. It is very easy to get caught up in all the hype and psend a firtune. For me this year – I have had the most fun, making things with my kids so far.
I have cut out a lot of things I normally do from my to do list – to free up more time to spend with the kids while they are little and we can truly enjoy the magic of Christmas. xx

Well said, Tahlia. Couldn’t agree with you more. I think it’s easy to lose what’s really important at Christmas.

Thanks Kellie. I don’t celebrate christmas, but I know from many the season gets ahead of many people. Need to just take a breath and chill! x
