party planning - food

last week I discussed all things on party planning for invites. From the fancy ones to the simple ones. For me, it was something that had to be quick, easy and also effective.

Now I am thinking about food. What to serve? What to make? What the cake will look like? I only got into baking a short time ago and am pleased to say I will be attempting my very own birthday cake.

Food can be a maker or a breaker for some parties. It is not only the kids you have to think about, but also the adults.

There are some food party platters that just look amazing!

Many of you would have seen this one

I will sit back and admire!

And these jelly cups just looks a little amazing but just a little too fancy for my kitchen skills…

So my party planning food is going to be a little more basic:

1: Butterfly Chocolate cupcakes

2. Pecan Coffee Cupcakes

3. Popcorn

4. Celery and Carrots and Dips

5. Fruit Platter: – If I am feeling adventurous I like the idea of fruit on a skewer…

6. Birthday cake

I am hoping this will be enough to keep the troops entertained and satisfied.

Ohh… and maybe 7. A bowl of popcorn. Because who doesn’t like popcorn!

If you are making TWO types of cupcakes, I’m sure you can manage the rainbow jello cups!! So much easier I reckon :p Depending on the party, I like to make sandwiches, mushroom soup or fry a plate of noodles too :)

Me and jello are not friends Ai!!! xx

I love looking on Pinterest and thinking about party planning, but we’ve never really thrown a real party (even with three children from 1 – 4). I would probably just disappoint myself when my watermelon shark ended up looking like a watermelon spewing or something!

    • Tahlia

Thus the reasons I just look at this watermelon shark idea and admire the original creator. No way could i do that!!!

I learnt the hard way that when it comes to children’s parties…the easier option is often the best! If you stick with what you know then there is lees stress! My attempt at a shrek cake for my daughter’s 2nd birthday was a complete disaster…she didn’t care though, she loved it anyway!

    • Tahlia

there will always be those times where all our efforts just become a little flop. But I am sure it still tasted yummy! I am sticking to easier! I figure that is safe too!

I love birthday parties and making crazy cakes. It’s kind of my favourite thing about them.
Birthday season is in June and July here so I have few months before I turn into a crazed party planner extraordinaire!

    • Tahlia

haha… it will be here before you know it!!! x

Start early and use the web as a great resource, blogs, pinterest, etc. Easy I know, but you’d be surprised how many people wait to the last minute. And always always have MORE than you expect!

    • Tahlia

you are so right zachary… i am thinking i may need a little more! I love finding inspiration from other parties too :)

    Yum! Can I come ;p
I have to start organising lufflump’s birthday which is next month. The food is the best part of birthdays! Last year we just had a sausage sizzle, the year before we got in caterers with mini sandwiches, cupcakes, veggie and dip – YUM! This year will probably be ‘bring a plate’ and lots of fruit/veggie sticks with dip.

    • Tahlia

sounds like a plan. A bbq is always a winner. We are doing an afternoon thing so not really bbq time :) x

Wow! That shark looks amazing! That would be the greatest attraction of an easter party! Really nice, thanks for the inspiration!

I’m really enjoying the theme/design of your web site. Do you ever run into any browser compatibility problems? A small number of my blog readers have complained about my website not operating correctly in Explorer but looks great in Safari. Do you have any tips to help fix this problem?
